Details
Behind the doors of Thirsk Hall, we will see the home of the Bell family which has been passed down through twelve generations. The original house was home to a family of Yeomans and cloth merchants during the early eighteenth century, and was extended in 1770's by master architect John Carr of York, to the hall we see today. Led by historian Dr. Helen Metcalfe, we will discover the history of a Georgian home, its architecture and its inhabitants. On exploring the transformation of the Hall's exterior and interiors across multiple generations, stories of love and devotion, mischief and mayhem will be uncovered, alongside tales of familial eccentricities and unusual objects.
