Bishop Monkton's petanque (boules) courts have had something of a chequered history since they were laid out around five years ago. But in yesterday's beautiful spring weather, two villagers were spotted enjoying a game in the sunshine. Mark and Mary Summerscales played for about an hour. Maybe petanque will enjoy a comeback in Bishop Monkton?

Mark and Mary were just two of many people who flocked to the Playing Fields to enjoy Easter Day - the croquet lawns were full and the children's playground was well used yesterday.
