Villager Dave Molyneux, who lives in Burngarth opposite the School, has come up with an idea to mark the eightieth anniversary of the end of the Second World War in May.

Dave told us:- "I’m putting a small VE Day display on the beck opposite the school entrance. The wonderful Alcock boys are painting up aircraft silhouettes and Elizibeth Wilkinson has crocheted 80 poppies.

"If children in the village would like to paint, crayon a picture or even write a small piece regarding WW2, maybe something about a relative of theirs who was involved, that would be great."

Dave is hoping to they can all be put on display for villagers and he is also thinking of compiling material in a book.

VE Day, on May 8th, 1945, marked the end of the Second World War in Europe following Germany's surrender. The war with Japan continued until August of 1945. On previous anniversaries of VE Day, the village has commemorated the day with street parties and other activities, even, most recently, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary which fell during the period of the first Covid lockdown in 2020.
