Heralding the start of Christmas, on the first Saturday in December a twinkly parade of tinselled tractors cheerfully trundled through the village, greeted by a warm Bishop Monkton welcome. Despite being accompanied by Storm Darragh with its strong winds and heavy rainfall, villagers bravely turned out to cheer tractors of all vintages on their way, a fact that did not go unnoticed receiving, this week, a“mention in despatches”

Thanking all supporters and donors, the Ripon Tinsel Tractor Group, who organise the event, particularly acknowledged our village remarking on ”the fantastic support from Bishop Monkton”.

The event raised £2653, an incredible amount considering the inhospitable conditions on the day, and exceeding the organiser's goal of £2000. All proceeds will be donated to Yorkshire Cancer Research.

This is the second year that this event has taken place (last year £1640 was collected) and follows a route of around 20 miles. It starts at F. Tate & Sons, Garden Centre, in Ripon who kindly allow its car park to be used as a meeting point and finishes with a double sweep round the square in Ripon Market Place.

We would be delighted to cheer them on their way again in 2025.
