The speed limit on the A61 near Bishop Monkton looks set to be reduced following fatal accidents on the road. North Yorkshire councillors will consider a proposal at a meeting this Friday (November 1st) to lower the limit to 50mph on the entire route from Ripon to Ripley. Currently, the limit on this stretch is 60mph apart from at Wormald Green where it would remain at its current level of 40mph.

Four people died in accidents on the road last year alone and there have been ten fatalities and 47 serious injuries on the section in recent years.

If approved, the new speed limit is likely to come into force later this year.
