POTENTIAL NEW HOUSING SITES IN BM REVEALED
BISHOP MONKTON TODAY
UPDATED
A map showing five potential new development sites for more new homes in Bishop Monkton has been revealed during the process of drawing up a new Local Plan for North Yorkshire.
The sites include -
- Land on Boroughbridge Road near Renton Close.
Three sites on Knaresborough Road-
- One to the south of the village beyond the Anglican Church on the left heading out of the village.
- Another to the north of the village on land on the left hand side of the back road towards Ripon which stretches across towards Moor Road.
- A site off the west side of Knaresborough Road stretching south from Mains Lane towards the Church Farm development.
The fifth site is right at the top of Moor Road on the left near the junction with the A61.
A sixth site is identified on the map which looks to be the site of the proposed Avant Homes development near the Knaresborough Road/Moor Road/Hungate junction. This scheme for sixty homes is already in the planning process but not yet approved.
The map, part of a map of the whole of North Yorkshire, shows sites which have been identified by developers and land owners as potential development sites in the future. It has been released by North Yorkshire Council as part of the process of drawing up a new Local Plan. The new plan is a result of local government reorganisation and will replace the previous plans drawn up by the now abolished district councils including Harrogate Borough Council.
The publication of this map does not mean that there are any definite plans for these sites at this time. It is simply that developers have identified them as potential building sites. NYC have not made any assessment of the suitability of these sites and that will not happen until after a period of public consultation, the dates of which have not yet been announced.
Late last year the Government announced new targets for house building in every local authority area in the country. The target for North Yorkshire Council is 4077 new homes each year. Since 2021 North Yorkshire has averaged 3213 a year.
We asked the Parish Council and the action group, BMAG, for their responses to the map but both said they felt it was too early to comment at this stage.
