Ever wondered if you would be any good at bowls, or simply fancied giving it a go, well now might be the time to find out.

Members of Bishop Monkton Bowling Club are extending a warm welcome to anyone interested to go along to one of their free introductory sessions and try the sport for themselves. These are being held on Monday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. or on Wednesday mornings between 10 a.m. and noon. Alternatively telephone 07971 029401 to arrange a suitable time.

The Club was founded in 2003 and plays on its own green in a beautiful setting at the QE11 playing fields adjacent to the Village Hall, an excellent spot to meet other members and villagers, watch a match or just enjoy the social aspects of bowling. It currently has a membership of just under 40.

The green is available every day to members, no booking is required and all equipment is supplied. Flat soled footwear is preferred if at all possible. Members have the choice at what level they wish to play from social at the club, friendly matches with nearby villages and internal knockout competitions through to league matches and county competitions. The Club also hosts many social activities throughout the year.

The Club has its own excellent website click

This sport's well documented benefits include that it is suitable for all ages and disabilities as well as being good for mental health. It combines fresh air, exercise and reduces social isolation.

No excuse therefore for not popping along and giving bowls a try.
