PHIL CONFIRMED AS CHAIR AS VH DISCUSSES FUTURE PLANS
BISHOP MONKTON TODAY
As expected Phil Goodier was confirmed as Chair of the Village Hall at last night's regular committee meeting. Phil succeeds Gerald Shervington who stepped down at the AGM last month. However, Gerald is to act as interim Treasurer until the Summer with Lesley Shervington also to be Acting Secretary, also until the Summer.
Among matters discussed at last night's meeting were -
-Up to £5,000 was sanctioned for a new (battery powered) mower for the cricket square and croquet lawns, which will have cassettes for both blade cutting and for ground spiking/slitting.
-Quotes are to be obtained for an outside toilet for users of the playing fields when the hall is not open.
-There was agreement regarding the installation of instant hot water heaters/units for the main sink in the kitchen and the sink in the lounge kitchenette. The cost is being confirmed (about £250 each). These will help when the amount of washing up or cleaning doesn't need the main tank (or the time it takes to heat) but is inconvenient if it requires many kettles to be boiled.
-The Yellow clothes collecting bin in the carpark in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance is proving a great success. As a short term measure some screening will be placed in front of it as some Harvest View residents felt it was an eyesore. This could be reviewed when the BBC depart (mid May)
-Discussions continued about a proposed tarmac edged path going around the perimeter of the playing fields from the tennis courts round to the path by the croquet lawns.
-Previously the committee had agreed to assist the Parish Council with the purchase of VAS (vehicle activated 30mph signs) for either ends of the Knaresborough Road as it runs through the village. The Parish Council is progressing this and it's likely to happen but, not surprisingly as they have to work through North Yorkshire Council (Highways), there are constraints as to what can be put in place!
-It was also reported that the Wireless Headsets are now working correctly and the single hand held Microphone has been re-installed. The broadband Router has been slightly re-positioned so that wifi users can see the lights and switch it off/on in the event of problems.
