With the continuing redevelopment works at the Methodist Chapel and the Village Hall already booked, this week's Parish Council meeting will take place in the pub. The meeting, starting at 7pm in the Mason's on Tuesday, is open to the public, although the PC is keen to remind people that the pub will not be serving drinks that evening!

It's an important meeting with the main agenda items being the election of a new Chair and the co-option of three new councillors. This follows the recent resignations of Chair, Stephen Verrill, Vice-Chair Sheila Parsons and of council member, Kai Shand.

The three members still remaining on the Council are Dean Culshaw, Steve Oliver and Gareth Sargieson.

'Bishop Monkton Today' understands that several people have already put themselves forward for co-option to the Council. If there are more than three candidates, the existing three councillors will need to vote to select which candidates should be co-opted. It is widely expected that Dean Culshaw will be chosen as the new Chair.

It has been a challenging year for the Parish Council with several fractious meetings, the formation of a staffing committee to monitor the performance of the Parish Clerk and an auditor's report identifying a series of procedural and reporting failures. However, at a recent meeting, a series of actions were agreed designed to address the issues identified in the audit.

The full agenda for the meeting is on the Parish Council's website click

We will have a report on the meeting on this website on Wednesday morning.
