Controversial plans to build a solar farm on land off Mains Lane between Bishop Monkton, Burton Leonard and Wormald Green have been given the go-ahead.

North Yorkshire Council's Strategic Planning Committee meeting yesterday (Tuesday ) approved the scheme from Harmony Energy for a 165 acre development close to the A61.

Objectors to the plans had expressed concern about the loss of agricultural land, possible increased flodding risks and also the visual impact of the proposal.
