It looks like the village's only phonebox will be taken out of service. The Parish Council discussed BT's plan to remove it at their meeting last week but decided not to object to the plan. The PC told us the decision was based on the condition of the box which has poor lighting and is exposed at the bottom. In addition it is not a classic red box and therefore is of no real heritage value.

The consultation period on the proposed removal of the kiosk, which is outside the Mechanics' on Boroughbridge Road, runs until May 3rd. BT made an earlier attempt to remove the phonebox back in 2021. Apparently, only one call has been made from the kiosk in the last twelve months!
