Phil Goodier is, as expected, set to take over as Chair of the Village Hall Committee following last night's (Wednesday) Annual General Meeting attended by more than thirty villagers.

Phil, who has also recently become a Parish Councillor, will be formally adopted at the next VH Committee Meeting in February. He replaces Gerald Shervington who has stepped down after more than a decade at the helm. During Gerald's reign, the Village Hall and Playing Fields have developed significantly with new facilities and activities, record levels of usage and a healthy bank balance.

Lesley Shervington is also relinquishing the role of VH Bookings Secretary as is Treasurer Victoria Sargeson. However, no replacements have yet been found so Lesley will stay in her role until June and Gerald has agreed to act as Treasurer for the same period.

In his final Annual Report, Gerald looked back over his whole period in the role which started when Barack Obama was in his first term as US President! Gerald also thanked the many people who have contributed to the development of the Hall and Playing Fields since then. And he highlighted a number of achievements in the past year - the development of new facilities and improvements including the installation of Wifi, the growth of pickleball, the success of last year's Hog Roast, the revamp of 'Bishop Monkton Today', and the BBC booking of the VH this Spring.

Martin Minett, being the 'father' of the VH committee, then gave a huge vote of thanks to both Gerald and Lesley for their incredible work, vision and dedication over the years. They have run a very successful 'ship' and leave it in a very healthy state.
