HOG ROAST

But it is not just a Hog Roast, it is a Family Fun Day as well and it takes place on the Monday of the Spring Bank Holiday weekend and has done so for well over 20 years.

It is a wonderful day for everybody, whatever their age. St. Johns Road and Main Street are packed with villagers, their families and visitors congregating and picnicing around the beck, especially if it is a glorious May afternoon. But it doesn't happen by chance or overnight and wouldn't remain such a "must go to" village event, if there weren't many, many, hours of meticulous and hard work and detailed preparation beforehand.

If you would be interested in getting involved then there is a meeting on:-

Wednesday March 12th at 7.15 p.m. in the Masons Arms

to start planning in detail for this event, the Village Hall's major fund raiser. Everyone and every idea will be warmly welcomed.

Stancey Couglan who is fronting up the organising committee, says “I am forming a new committee to help take our fantastic Family Village Event to the next level. We want to expand and enhance the day to attract even more people”.

There is a long list of plans which includes help to manage activities for youngsters and families, run the various attractions, man the stalls and devise a new hog roast menu, which will feature an option specifically for children, a new idea for 2025. There is also the busy and ever popular tea room to organise.

“The more that can come to the meeting, the merrier”, says Stancey. “I am also happy for people who can’t come or who don’t want to be involved to send me ideas.” To contact Stancey click

Here's to another wonderful village celebration.
