Planning Matters Within the Parish of Bishop Monkton

Land at Village Cross Roads at Moor Road/Knaresborough Road Junction.

Application by Alfa Homes Ltd representing Avant Homes.

A revised application for planning permission was submitted on June 5th, 2025 and is for the building of 58 houses, two fewer than was previously proposed. It also seeks to address villagers' previously expressed concerns over drainage, sewage issues and road safety at the cross roads.

This Action Group was established to help the village community ensure future housing developments are safe, supported by local infrastructure and sympathetic to the existing environment.

North Yorkshire Local Plan.

Preparations are underway for a single Local Plan for the County, replacing existing plans from former district and borough councils. It sets out the vision for the future of North Yorkshire and guides development for the next 15-20 years until 2045. It will address housing, economic growth, environmental protection, and other planning matters and identifies potential new development sites for more new homes in Bishop Monkton.

The aim is to have the plan adopted by late 2028.

Solar Farm At Land East of Wormald Green.

Application by Harmony WG Solar Ltd.

This is a proposal for the installation of a ground mounted solar farm and associated infrastructure that will cover approximately 165 acres and contain approximately 200,000 solar panels, expected to generate enough energy to power 12,000 homes. The application falls within Bishop Monkton Parish boundaries, starting about 800 yards from the Knaresborough Road junction with Mains Lane and falling within the catchment area of the beck.

The NYC Strategic Planning Committee met on December 10th 2024 and recommended acceptance. However, further information was requested, including details concerning the A61 access track, all of which will have to be accepted by the Council's Planning Department before work can commence.
