The book published to accompany the 'Best Years of our Lives' project about the history of Bishop Monkton School is on sale today at the Village Funday.

You can get a copy from the Local History Group stall on Main Street or from the School Hall where an exhibition of class photos from 1900 to the present day and children's artwork is also on show.

The book costs £10 (cash at the stall but cash or contactless in the school hall) and the proceeds after production costs will go to the Friends of Bishop Monkton School.

The book, which is 128 pages with over sixty images, covers the history of education in the village including evidence of early schools before the current school was opened in 1849 right up to the present day plus the history of the Mechanics' Institution - once a centre for adult education.

The film produced as part of the project has already been screened twice and has been seen by around 100 people. It will be posted on the internet in due course and there are plans for a further screening.
