RECORDS SMASHED BY BECKBUSTERS
BISHOP MONKTON TODAY
Not only were course records well and truly shattered at the seventh annual BeckBusters race held in the village recently, but the amount raised was greater than ever before.
With money still to come in, the total to date stands at £5,500, an amount with which the Friends of Bishop Monkton School (FOBMS), who organise the event, are delighted. It will enable them to reimburse the school for new tables and chairs purchased recenlty.
Chair of FOBMS, Vic Porter, says “I think it is our best result since Covid, both for numbers and for the money which we have raised. This is excellent when you consider the very different economic climate that we are in”.
The Coupland Cup, given to the fastest boy and girl attending Bishop Monkton School, was awarded last Friday and went to Tomas Summerscales and Zinny Riddler.
Vic adds, "The work involved in getting the course so accessible for runners was immense - even more so with the rain the week before the event. As always, the marshals were fantastic the whole way round”.
A raft of lovely feedback has been received from villagers who use the footpaths which form part of the route, expressing their delight at the maintenance that was carried out in preparation for the race. Vic says, “We are really pleased that we are able to bring additional benefit to the village in such a way”.
