The Parish Council is calling on Avant Homes to hold a public meeting in the village about the developer’s revised plans to build homes near the Knaresborough Road/Moor Road junction. At its meeting last night the Council decided to contact Avant suggesting that a public meeting should be held in the Village Hall when a planning application is put in for the new proposals.

Back in July, Avant announced a revised version of their plan with 60 homes on the site, as opposed to the 88 in the earlier version of the proposed development. The Council's call for a public meeting follows an approach made by Avant, at the time they announced the new plans, for a meeting with BMAG, the village action group.

Other matters discussed at the PC meeting last night included:-

  • The PC decided to employ an additional member of staff on a short-term contract to help out with specific ongoing matters.
  • Regular inspections of the playground are to be introduced.
  • The PC is to contact NYC about the cutting back of trees and bushes in the village and about the visibility of the 30mph speed limit signs on Moor Road.
  • It was confirmed that the Council is paying for mechanical repairs to the clock in the former Mechanics Institution building.
  • Negotiations are continuing about the sale of the former Pinfold lane to the owners of the Burngarth property.
  • The PC decided to buy a new computer and phone for the Clerk and to create a new website.

The Parish Clerk, Sue Reid, who had been on sick leave for several weeks, is now back at work and attended the meeting.
