Today we begin a series of profiles of our six Parish Councillors, starting today with the Chair, Dean Culshaw. We will be running one each day this week and, once they have appeared, they will be lodged in the Parish Council area of this website

Name

Dean Culshaw, Chair of the Parish Council

Where do you live (roughly) in the village?

Norbridge, Boroughbridge Road.

Tell us about your immediate family

Dorothy and I moved here in 1992 after living in Saudi Arabia for ten years, Our three children went to school locally and Nick now lives in the USA, Alexandra in London and Matthew in Harrogate.

What is your professional background?

Human Resources with a specialism in Oil and Gas staffing for Major Projects. I retired ten years ago from BP working in Azerbaijan.

What particular skills and experience do you bring to the PC?

I am used to working collaboratively and finding ways to work imaginatively within a highly constrained environment. I have been a Councillor for three years and hope to build on that experience.

Are there particular issues/matters you want to concentrate on?

I have a specific interest in the flooding issues that impact the village but in general would like to help the Parish Council professionalise the way it operates.

What do you hope that the PC can achieve for the village?

I would like the Parish Council to be both proactive and responsive, initiating projects, supporting the many groups in the village and responding to the needs of the village and its residents. Like it or not, the village is growing and we need to ensure that such growth is sustainable and beneficial. The PC can help by encouraging community engagement and reflecting the views of the village to North Yorkshire Council and beyond.
