MASONS LANDLORD GARY CROSS WITH YORKSHIRE WATER
BISHOP MONKTON TODAY
The long-running saga of Yorkshire Water and the Lamb and Flag may finally be over but the frustration and anger caused by it shows no sign of dying down.
On Wednesday YW filled in the hole in the road outside the former pub - two days after they had, at the seventh attempt, succeeded in connecting the development to the water supply.
Over the last three months, there has been considerable disruption to villagers with road closures meaning diversions through the ford or by longer routes to get to and from Boroughbridge.
Ashfield Homes, the developer of the site, had expressed their frustration with Yorkshire Water and had complained to the water industry regulator OFWAT.
Now one of the leading lights of the village has criticised what he regards as YW’s disregard for the village. The landlord of the Masons, Gary Cross, said:-
“So just to clarify - the water has now been connected on the 7th attempt? So YW inconvenienced the community of BM 6 times without consideration to the residents, without any formal apology for their inept ability to coordinate their teams to connect a water supply to a new build. I could understand this if YW were an electrical contractor trying to connect a water supply, but surely the clue is in the name - Yorkshire Water! It’s a great example of a utility company that just doesn’t care about its customers. A company not fit for purpose! What are the Parish Council’s thoughts? Are they lodging complaints?”
At its meeting on Tuesday the PC did discuss the general issue of roadworks in the village. It agreed to look into whether traffic lights could be used more often to avoid so many road closures.
We have approached Yorkshire Water for a response to Gary's comments.
