LAMB FENCES CAN STAY, SAY PLANNERS
BISHOP MONKTON TODAY
NYC Planners have decided after all not to make developers remove controversial fences at the Lamb and Flag housing development in the village despite earlier asking them to get rid of them.
North Yorkshire Council’s Head of Development Management, Martin Grainger, said: “We have carried out an investigation into planning matters and no breach that warranted enforcement action was found. This case has now been closed."
The row started last Summer when several residents complained to the Council that the fences in front of the converted pub were out of keeping with their surroundings and inappropriate in a conservation area. A wall had been promised in the original design statement for the site. The Council asked the developer, Ashfield Homes, to remove the fences but they refused, saying that the building of a wall was not part of the conditions of planning permission.
The development consists of five houses - two made from the former pub which closed in 2020, a conversion of the former holiday cottage behind the pub and two completely new houses in the old pub car park. It is understood that the converted holiday let is the only house so far sold.
