Christmas trees give so much joy and light up the season's festivities, but when it comes time to take them down, what are the best options for disposal.

You could chop them up and pop them in the NYC garden waste bin ready for when collection restarts in the spring or you could make arrangements to have them collected and recycled. In doing so you will be supporting a charitable cause as well as helping to look after the planet by ensuring that the tree is disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.

Two local organisations are offering a collection service, both of which are raising money for local charities.

Boroughbridge Young Farmers Club are offering to collect your tree on Sunday, January 4th anytime after 9 a.m. You don't even have to be in, just leave the tree outside your property with £5 attached. All money raised will be shared between Boroughbridge Young Farmers' Club and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

All tree collections must be pre-booked. To email your request, please click here

Ripon Walled Garden are offering a similar service. Trees will be collected on Friday, January 9th or Saturday, January 10th and must be pre-booked before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5th. Suggested donations are £7 for a tree under 10ft and £10 for ones over 10ft.

Ripon Walled Garden is run by Ripon Community Link, a local charity supporting people with learning and physical disabilities. To book your tree for collection either call in at the Garden Cafe, telephone 01765 609229 or book online, click here
