Today's planned Christmas Tree collection by Boroughbridge Young Farmers has been cancelled and this morning's Anglican Church service in the village is off after heavy overnight snowfall. The pub was shut at lunchtime today but is open this evening for drinks only.

The village woke up to several inches of snow. According to one villager, Colin Hunter, who takes a keen interest in all meteorological matters, he's measured the snow at 4.5 inches.

It's the second snowfall of the Winter after the previous short- lived freeze in November. The current forecast is for more snow and sleet throughout the day.

The lay reader due to take the Anglican church service in the village was snowed in and unable to get here.

The Young Farmers said:-

"Unfortunately we will not be able to postpone to another weekend as we had five teams due out today and will struggle to find another day we’re all available. Thanks so much from Boroughbridge Young Farmers for the continued year on year support for this great fundraiser we do for charity!

It’s always hugely appreciated and once again sorry from us all that we can’t get to you! We hope you understand and we’ll be sure too be back next year!"

Please also let us know any news of road conditions, other event cancellations etc because of the snow and please also send us your pictures of the snow by email

All our pictures from the snow will be gathered in a special gallery here
