TREASURER’S HOUSE – A TREASURE TROVE FOR HISTORY LOVERS
The secrets of one of Yorkshire’s most historic houses will be revealed at the next meeting of Bishop Monkton Local History Group. Glennis Whyte from the National Trust will explain how the Treasurer’s House in York was restored and remodelled by the eccentric, multi-millionaire Frank Green.
By the 19th century, historic properties, once owned by the aristocracy, were being lived in by industrialists, mill owners and other nouveau riche families. Glennis will describe the allegedly haunted house and chart how Green planned his rise in society, mixed with royalty, but almost lost his reputation.
The meeting is on Wednesday 25th November at 7pm in the Methodist Schoolroom.
