Introduction

BISHOP MONKTON TODAY Introduction

St John the Baptist Church is a welcoming and active church community situated in the heart of the North Yorkshire village of Bishop Monkton near Ripon.  We are part of the benefice of Ripon Cathedral.

We hold a service on Sundays in St John's and in St Leonard's Burton Leonard at 9.30 and 11.00 am.  Please see church noticeboards, village magazine and village website (bishopmonktontoday.chessck.co.uk) or our Facebook page for details.  Children Led and/or Family Communion Services have now started at St John's and all are very welcome.

Our churches will remain open for private prayer. Disabled access is now available at St John's via the back door.  We kindly ask that you follow the guidelines posted at the back of each church.

Reverend Robb Wainwright was licensed as our Associate Priest at a service in Ripon Cathedral in October 2020 and is enjoying getting to know people in our two communities. He is available for home-visits  or on the phone 01765 676298 and is always happy to stop and chat if you meet him out and about.

If you are wanting to have a christening or a wedding; or are in the sad position of having to plan a funeral, please contact Revd. Robb for details of how these are being held in our church.

We are fortunate to be part of a friendly and helpful community. If you are in need of help with shopping, appointments or simply want to talk to someone, please get in touch with our churchwarden, Andrew Carruthers on 01765 676243.

"The parish of Bishop Monkton: St John the Baptist is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Leeds’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services."

The Church has its own website which can be found HERE.
