Child Led Services
Over 50 presents were blessed by the Rev Robb Wainwright at the Children-Led Service on Sunday November 17th. These will be taken to the Salvation Army in Ripon for distribution among local families who might not be able to afford presents for their children this year.
Local families from Bishop Monkton, Burton Leonard and Ripon area gathered in Bishop Monkton on Sunday for the ever-popular children led cafe church service at St John's.
Crispy bacon rolls, sausage butties, pastries, fresh juice and of course tea and coffee greeted visitors at the 9.30am service.
The church was transformed into a cafe vibe, with the congregation sitting around tables chatting and tucking into late breakfasts.
Cafe church is a service led by Reverend Robb and steered by the children. The children volunteer to choose hymns, take a collection, perform the music, write prayers and read the passages. Their involvement lifts the service, which is fun, inclusive and celebratory from start to finish.
Every week new families are joining the growing congregation, all are welcome. The interactive service focuses on bringing stories from the bible to life, in both relevant and memorable ways.
There is strong musicality with modern school songs and more traditional favourite hymns. Children who play an instrument are encouraged to play and birthdays are celebrated with a sing-along - for both children and adults!
What's more, it's all done by 10:30am so families can crack on with the rest of their weekend. It's a great start to the day, but reflects an understanding of the demands on family life.
Cafe church is held once a quarter and regular Children Led services are held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, alternating between Bishop Monkton and Burton Leonard churches. Services start at 9.30am and typically last around 30 minutes (cafe church lasts a bit longer because of all the eating).
